2Ws (Wasim and Waqar) was the name of the most successful
bowling pair of cricket world. The best combination of right and left handed
fast pace bowlers ever in cricket. Waqar was considered as the king of batsmen’s
toe crushing yorkers and Wasim was famous for his magical in and out swinging
deliveries. They had been a real threat and so the difference between Pakistan
and its opponent teams. It happened so many times that their team did not use
third bowler in the match because only these two had finished the whole batting
lineup of the opponent team. Both bowlers left wonderful career records behind.
Waqar Younis, who retired from international cricket in 2003
still holds the record of most 5 wickets in ODI (one day international) format.
He did that 13 times in his ODI career with career best of 7/36.
He has achieved the same milestone 22 times in Test cricket
(5 days’ match). He was fastest bowler of his time who was famous for crushing
the toes of facing batsmen several times.
His partner Wasim Akram, was also an outstanding bowler who was
never be an easy one to score on for any batsman. He was truly a magician who
could swing the ball in any direction and was able to bounce the ball at any height
he wanted. He is one of very few bowlers who achieved 900+ wickets altogether in both
formats of cricket (ODI and TEST). He is one of the only two bowlers who have made Hat tricks in both famous formats of cricket following by his counterpart Muhammad Sami. He made hat tricks two times in each format.
Both the bowlers will be remembered for their fear and
perhaps world of cricket will never see such an outstanding bowling couple.
